U10 Cup Semi Final Match 29th March 2009.
Venue: Leafy Lane, Corsham
F.C Chippenham Youth 1 Marshfield Juniors 0
A perfect Sunday morning for football at Leafy Lane greeted FC Chippenham Youth and Marshfield Juniors with great anticipation for a very exciting game. With no history between these 2 sides neither team was sure of how this game would unfold.
FC Chippenham made a nervous start and Marshfield showed very quickly that they were an attacking side not afraid to commit plenty of players forward. Some early pressure was soaked up by the Youths and they looked to be settling into a rhythm when after 7 minutes disaster struck. A high ball lobbed into the Chippenham box bounced and as the defender tried to get control it struck his hand – Penalty to Marshfield. Chippenham hearts sank as the ball was placed for the spot kick. The sizeable crowd lining the sides held their breath as the striker confidently took his run up and smartly struck a well placed shot towards the bottom corner. FC Chippenham keeper Tadgh Feerick was equally confident and dived to save it superbly with the rebound surprising the on looking players who were thrown into a fierce scramble to get the loose ball and with great determination defenders Matt Kirtley and Sam Fieldhouse cleared the danger.
Having survived the scare the Youths were sparked into action and suddenly it was all Chippenham. The pressure was now piled on Marshfield who were happy to concede corner after corner. Marcus Fenton had a header just over the bar and Will Summers had a shot bravely stopped by the Marshfield keeper. Despite these chances amazingly the half finished all square.
In the second half Chippenham looked the more inventive side. Alex Bowers came on for Will Summers and Toby Ferguson replaced Harry Vickers. Kieran Fitzwater was running the midfield for Chippenham, one minute making a tackle in defence the next making an attacking run. 8 minutes into the second half and a Chippenham attack down the left side was blocked. The ball was laid back to Marcus Fenton just beyond the centre spot, he had space and took a touch before letting go a screaming shot which took a very slight deflection into the top corner for a superb goal, the deadlock was broken.
Marshfield were stunned and in the next 5 minutes Chippenham created chances where they could have had 2 more, the best of which fell to Alex Bowers but the finish went just over the cross bar. With 5 minutes to go Marshfield were not going to give up easily and had some determined attacks on the Chippenham goal the best was a clear shot on goal from inside the box but was smartly dived on and held by Tadgh. With 2 minutes to go Marshfield won a free kick just outside the area to give them one last chance – the shot was struck superbly and was possibly going just wide of the left post but was pushed out by the keepers hand for safety. Again Marshfield committed forward for the corner which was cleared by Chippenham and the passing move forward set up Toby Ferguson for a one on one with the Marshfield keeper but the finish was just wide of the post and that was to be the last chance of the game. The final whistle blew and Chippenham Youth celebrated being through to the final. Marshfield who had put up such a Valliant effort were out.

U10 Match Report
U10 Blue League Match 22nd March 2009.
F.C Chippenham Youth 2 Larkhall Athletic Falcons 1
A fine FC Chippenham performance saw them dominate against a plucky Larkhall side on a sunny Sunday morning at Stanley Park.
FC Chippenham started brightly and played some quality football. The early exchanges saw FC Chippenham force several corners, the most notable of which saw Kieron Fitzwalter play a short ball for Matt Kirtley whose drive bounced off several Larkhall defenders before being scrambled clear.
Although mainly on the back foot, Larkhall always looked dangerous and produced several decent passing moves of their own. Midway through the 1st half and somewhat against the run of play, Larkhall created a quick counter attack and swept the ball accross the Chippenham box to find a man over whose initial shot was superbly saved by Tadgh Feerick but the Larkhall attacker followed up well to put Larkhall into the lead.
FC Chippenham responded to this setback with great character and continued to enjoy the bulk of possession before finally, just before half time, they got their reward. Marcus Fenton chipped a well balanced ball into the Larkhall box and Harry Vickers reacted quickest turning quickly to volley the ball into the roof of the Larkhall net.
FC Chippenham started the 2nd half determined to dominate and they did, restricting Larkhall to a few unsuccessful forays into their half. From a Chippenham perspective, the pleasing aspect was that we kept excellent shape throughout the game and the midfield of Kieron Fitzwalter, Marcus Fenton and Sam Costain were dominant throughout, winning the ball and creating numerous moves. Defensively, anything the midfield missed was comfortably mopped up by Sam Fieldhouse and Matt Kirtley at the back. Subs Toby Ferguson and Alex Bowers also made appearances and contributed.
The deciding goal came from a FC Chippenham corner. Harry Vickers forced a defensive error and from the resulting corner Kieron Fitzwalter delivered an excellent ball into the box which was attacked for Marcus Fenton to drive firmly home from close range.
FC Chippenham are now looking forward to their Cup semi-final next week after a thoroughly deserved win.

U10 Match Report
U10 League Match 15th March 2009.
F.C Chippenham Youth 0 Warminster Highbury A 2
FC Chippenham put up a very brave effort against the league leaders but a last gasp effort to equalise didn’t pay off and a lightning quick break saw Warminster make it 2 nil with the last kick of the game.
Chippenham Youth soaked up a lot of pressure in the first 10 minutes and looked to be settling down when a careless hand ball from Will Summers gave Warminster a penalty. The spot kick was driven low and hard but was superbly stopped by the firm hand of Chippenham keeper Tadgh Feerick and the resulting rebound went out for a throw in.
The Youths were rallied by this and then had their best spell of the match the best opportunity falling to Matthew Kirtley who had a shot just over the crossbar. On the 18th Minute Warminster drove in a corner from the right hand side and a fine header put them 1 nil up.
In the second half the match ebbed and flowed with Warminster always looking threatening and putting the Chippenham defence under a lot of pressure. Despite the rare heat of the morning and tiring legs Chippenham defended well with Will Summers making some fine tackles. A long goal kick put Harry Vickers into a fine attacking position on the edge of the Warminster box, he turned the defender well but had his shot charged down for a last minute corner. FC Chippenham pushed everyone up in an all or nothing effort to try and save the game. The corner burst into the box but was scrambled away by Warminster who made a rapid counter attack down the right wing and with 2 men over in the Chippenham box the second goal was a simple tap in for the last kick of the game.
In the end Warminster were worthy winners but Chippenham were so unlucky not to have salvaged the draw.

U10 League Match 8th March 2009.
F.C Chippenham 2 Westbury 0
FC Chippenham bounced back from last weeks defeat to put in a very good team performance against Westbury with a convincing 2 nil win.
Some fine passing and moving created chances right from the kick off with a shot in the first minute bringing a save out of the Westbury keeper and moments later Harry Vickers hit the post. 8 minutes on the clock and Kieran Fitzwater found the net from a fine layback by Marcus Fenton.
In midfield Sam Costain worked very hard to win the ball and created many chances with some great passes into the box and was rewarded just before half time squaring the ball to Marcus Fenton in space just out side the box who shot into the bottom corner of Westbury’s goal to make it 2 nil.
In the second half Westbury looked very dangerous on the break and put some pressure on the Chippenham goal but FC Chippenham were also dangerous on the counter attack and were unlucky not to have 2 or 3 more goals in the second half. New signings Toby and Will Ferguson came on to make their home debuts both putting in solid performances to keep the game under control. The Chippenham defence of keeper Tadgh Feerick and defenders Matt Kirtley and Sam Fieldhouse (replaced by Will Summers in the second half) worked hard for yet another clean sheet. Overall a very high quality game was enjoyed by all with Chippenham deserving the win.

U10 Match Report
U10 League Match 1st March 2009.
F.C Chippenham 0 Melksham Park 2
FC Chippenham came back down to earth after the high of knocking Melksham out of the cup last week only to face them again in the league but this time were not able to produce the same result.
On a lovely Spring morning for football Melksham made a bright start, Chippenham didn’t settle down and Melksham took 2 good goals within the first 15 minutes which was enough to seal the win.
FC Chippenham came out in the second half with much more determination and created some good chances the best of which fell to Kieran Fitzwater 10 minutes in when he took a return pass from Marcus Fenton and fired his shot just wide of the post. A good spell of pressure from Chippenham followed with Melksham making one or two counter attacks which were cut out by defenders Matthew Kirtley and Sam Fieldhouse and the Chippenham keeper also had to make a fine finger tip save from a stinging shot.
With 5 minutes to go Tadgh Feerick’s goal kick bounced in the Melksham box and hit the Crossbar but just went over to the relief of the Melksham crowd. A final flurry of chances for Chippenham in the last few minutes couldn’t find the net before the whistle sounded to end a fine comeback effort.
