U10 League Match 1st March 2009.
F.C Chippenham 0 Melksham Park 2
FC Chippenham came back down to earth after the high of knocking Melksham out of the cup last week only to face them again in the league but this time were not able to produce the same result.
On a lovely Spring morning for football Melksham made a bright start, Chippenham didn’t settle down and Melksham took 2 good goals within the first 15 minutes which was enough to seal the win.
FC Chippenham came out in the second half with much more determination and created some good chances the best of which fell to Kieran Fitzwater 10 minutes in when he took a return pass from Marcus Fenton and fired his shot just wide of the post. A good spell of pressure from Chippenham followed with Melksham making one or two counter attacks which were cut out by defenders Matthew Kirtley and Sam Fieldhouse and the Chippenham keeper also had to make a fine finger tip save from a stinging shot.
With 5 minutes to go Tadgh Feerick’s goal kick bounced in the Melksham box and hit the Crossbar but just went over to the relief of the Melksham crowd. A final flurry of chances for Chippenham in the last few minutes couldn’t find the net before the whistle sounded to end a fine comeback effort.
