U10 Match Report

Nil - Nil does not tell the story of a superb match played in a great spirit and with a delightful display of quality football from both teams which was a credit to the standard of the Mid Wilts Blue Division.
Both teams had chances to steal this match as the attacks ebbed and flowed but in the end a draw was a fair result. Trowbridge always looked dangerous on the attack particularly from corners but also some superb linked up passing created opportunities which they were not able to convert due to the work of Chippenham defenders Matt Kirtley and Sam Fieldhouse who together with keeper Tadgh Feerick are holders of one of the best defensive records in the league.
There were first half chances for FC Chippenhams Harry Vickers and Sam Costain, and Trowbridge had a free kick and several corners but neither side could break through. The quality of the tackling was superb and neither team gave the other time on the ball. The last chance of the half fell to Chippenham with a free kick but the shot went just over. At half time both teams were feeling the strain of playing at such a pace under the heat of the evening sun and the spectators were looking forward to another very entertaining half.
The second half saw more pressure from Trowbridge on the Chippenham goal but they could not find a way through. One effort saw a one on one with the Chippenham keeper coming out and the shot was put just wide of the post. FC Chippenham had the best chance of the half when a pass from Kieran Fitzwater put Marcus Fenton through for a clear shot on goal which was low and on target but superbly saved by the diving Trowbridge keeper. In the 18th Minute Trowbridge had a corner which was delivered perfectly in to the Chippenham box, the Striker found the space and made a good connection with the header but it was over the crossbar. Almost in harmony the sun went in as the referee blew to call time on one of the best displays of the season and both managers should be very satisfied that their players had given everything but just couldn’t find that missing piece to separate the teams.
