U10 Match Report

FC Chippenham 4 : AFC Corsham 3.

Fixture backlog and a cup match postponement lead to a last minute arrangement to hold this match. With Stanley park closed the two teams agreed to hold the match at a very cold and windy Leafy Lane ground in Corsham.
FC Chippenham started brightly and netted 3 goals by the half way point – Harry Vickers with the first, The second started with a fine save from keeper Tadgh Feerick at the Chippenham end , 2 passes later it was with Harry Vickers who passed it through to the box for Will Summers to finish off the move. Kieran Fitzwater found the net again before half time to wrap up a great half for Chippenham
In the second half Corsham started determined and put some pressure on the Chippenham goal. One of these attacks broke down when Alex Bowers made a vital tackle, broke down the left wing and slid the ball through the centre for Kieran Fitzwater to run onto and make a brilliant solo finish. Four nil up and Chippenham looked to be home and dry. Concentration lapsed however and from the restart Corsham ran through the Chippenham half unchallenged and made it 4 – 1. Minutes later another attack from Corsham put a great ball into the centre and suddenly it was 4-2. Corsham sensing they could get something out of the game pushed on and Chippenham defended very deeply. A shot at point blank brought another save from the Chippenham keeper. From the corner the ball looked to be going out on the far side. Corsham kept it in and broke through into the box to make it 4-3 with 2 minutes left.
In the end however the deficit was too much for Corsham to overcome and Chippenham dug deep to hang on for the win and the 3 points. Credit to both sides for a very entertaining match in what were very tough conditions.
