U10 Match Report

U10 Cup – Quarter Final 22nd Feb 2009
Melksham Park 0 (0) : F.C Chippenham 0 (1) (after penalties).

F.C Chippenham and Melksham Park met for the second time this year but this time to battle for a place in the semi-final of the cup. The weather was perfect for football but the ground still very soft.
The tension was high and predictably the match was very tight. Melksham had a good spell in the first five minutes but Chippenham settled down and started to apply some pressure. A good shot from Marcus Fenton went just wide after a clever layback from Harry Vickers. A free kick from outside the box followed after a foul on Kieran Fitzwater but the shot was blocked by the wall.
In the second half Melksham started well and had several corners in the first five minutes which Chippenham defended well. The rest of the half was a tight midfield battle with Chippenham creating the most chances. Will Summers was very strong on the left mid field and Sam Fieldhouse was involved in a very tough duel in defence. Substitutes Sam Costain and Alex Bowers added some fresh legs to a tiring midfield but at full time it was still nil-nil.
Ten minutes of extra time saw both teams have chances but inevitably the referee who had a great game blew the final whistle for the match to be settled on penalties.
Melksham took the first penalty which was neatly saved by Chippenham keeper Tadgh Feerick. After four penalties from Melksham and three penalties from Chippenham the score was still nil-nil. Matthew Kirtley stepped up for Chippenhams fourth attempt and powered it into the net to the delight of his team mates and the Chippenham crowd.
After more than an hour after kick off Chippenham had finally done it and are now eagerly waiting to see who they will meet in the Semi-final.
